What's On Represent Have you ever wondered why we only celebrate Black History for one month of the year? Or whose job it is to select what is shown in museums? Do you want to know how to use your creative voice to lead change? Represent will answer these questions. Over 4 days, discover how museums decide whose history to tell and how professional artists address this by creatively responding to neglected stories. Learn and uncover hidden narratives at Leeds Industrial Museum and take the lead, to find your own creative ways to radically transform how these hidden histories are told. You will be supported by professional creatives, Heritage Corner and the Geraldine Connor Foundation and paid for your contribution. Artist Profiles Who can take part? Represent is open to all young people aged 16-24. We are looking for a group of creative and open-minded people who have questions about how history is told. We want to hear your views on minoritised history and see what you create in response, whether that is a short film, a dance, a piece of music or spoken word. Why take part? This is a paid opportunity. You will be paid a minimum of £105 for the four days, plus any travel expenses. You will build skills such as leadership, communication, critical thinking, and teamwork that all look great on applications for jobs or university places. It is also an opportunity to use your creative work to help uncover Leeds’ colonial links to the Industrial Revolution. Details Tuesday 27th - Friday 30th October 2020, 11am - 5pm daily. We are planning for the project to take place at the Leeds Industrial Museum, but this is subject to change, depending on COVID-19 guidance. We will be following social distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. View our COVID-19 Guidance for Represent.
