We are so proud of all of the young people who took part in our biggest show yet – New Generation at Leeds Playhouse on Saturday 15th July. Thanks as ever to our Creative Associates Christella Litras and Sheila Howarth for organising an amazing night of performances.

After our two sell-out shows at Seven Arts in April, we went even bigger this time with a concert as part of Leeds Playhouse’s Open Season in the Quarry Theatre. The group of young people, aged 9 to 22, put on an incredible professional show with original and cover songs, raps, spoken word, and dance, accompanied by a live band. Comperes Andrea and Cameron kept the energy flowing throughout the sets as we went from heart-wrenching ballads to hip-shaking salsa.

Leeds City Academy also joined us for an energetic group dance – a big thank you to Afromoves and Ms Salazar. Special guest artists were neo-soul songstress Mica Sefia, soulful singer Kyrann Robinson and reggae artist Ruele Benjamin, who joined the Reggae Roots Choir for a rendition of ‘Just The Way You Are’.

As the night grew to a close, Christella Litras performed a touching tribute to the late Heather Nelson – a pillar of the community who is sorely missed.

Our popular singing, songwriting, music and mental health programme Jam Around The Table is going from strength to strength – if you enjoy performing and want to get the chance to perform at famous venues, sign up to our next session this October half term at Music House.
